Akron man knows he's lucky
Lowell Barty knows he's lucky to be alive. Every day since 1942 has been a bonus for the 85-year-old Akron man. As a sailor in World War II, he survived the sinking of two U.S. naval ships only 48 hours apart. An estimated 600 men lost their lives in the Japanese bombing attacks. Barty was one of about 200 survivors plucked from the ocean.
